VISWASS seeks to foster education, research, consultation, leadership, management and service to the profession and to the community. GNM is a three and half years diploma course in nursing and Orissa Nursing Council (ONC) awards the diploma. The intake of student is 60 per annum. Candidates within the age group of 18-35 years having passed 10 + 2 in any stream can apply. Minimum percentage of marks required is 40% for General candidates and 30% for (SC/ST/OBC).
Admission to the course is open to both men and women of any University/Board recognized by the Utkal University. The prevailing University and Government regulations govern the intake of students. Before applying for admission to the course, candidates should satisfy themselves that they meet the minimum requirement.

The mission and goals of VISWASS Nursing College are Education, Research and Service. B. Sc. Nursing is a four-year degree course, which includes a core of knowledge in the humanities and the behavioral, physical, and biological sciences, as well as theory and practice of professional nursing. The Bachelor degree in nursing is awarded by the Utkal University, Odisha. The intake capacity of students is 75 per annum. Candidates within the age group of 18-28 years can apply for admission. They must have passed 10+2 Sc or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as optional subjects and secured 45% marks in aggregate (in case of General Caste candidates) and 35% marks (in case of SC/ST candidates).

The aim of the undergraduate nursing program at the post basic level is to upgrade the diploma(GNM) nurses to assume resposibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at basic level in providing nursing services. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, manager in a clinical/public healthsettings. The intake capacity of students is 25 per annum. Candidates who have successfully completed General Nursing & Midwifery course(GNM) of 3yrs duration in colleges recognised by Indian Nursing Council and have One Year clinical experience (after registration as Nurse) as Staff nurse in a hospital are eligible for admission in to this course.
