Paediatric Nursing Lab

The Paediatric Nursing Lab, VISWASS School and College of Nursing prepares the diploma, graduate and postgraduate candidates to be a competent, skillful and creative in delivering the needed nursing care for healthy and sick children from birth to adolescents in different paediatric settings. The lab is equipped with mannequins like Baby Simulator, Paediatric mannequins, CPR mannequins, Physical examination mannequins, as well as high fidelity child simulator. The lab provides students a realistic, simulated clinical setting to practice and demonstrate competency of selected nursing skills.

Objectives

• To acquire knowledge and skill to care a healthy and unhealthy child.
• To demonstrate paediatric nursing procedures on Paediatric mannequins.
• To provide the students a realistic environment of hospital setting to practice the Paediatric nursing procedures.
• To demonstrate resuscitation of newborn

Advanced MCH Lab (Skill Lab)

VISWASS School and College of Nursing established Advanced MCH Lab (Skill Lab) is to introduce new competencies (skills) in caring a patient in a more realistic simulation settings. The skill lab enhances the student confidence levels where they will get an opportunity to overcome fear and insecurity while working with variety of simulators and actual hospital equipment. As the clinical setting is not for practice, VISWASS Skill lab makes its students competent enough before their clinical posting.

The Advanced MCH lab is equipped with various stations for maternal health care like antenatal station, intranatal station, postnatal station, family planning and other stations.

Objectives

• To provide competency based learning approach for learners to practice and acquire clinical skills and also upgrade their knowledge.
• To help the student in clearly defining the learning outcomes against each activity being demonstrated at each station through various stations.

Nutrition Lab

Nutrition plays a key role on health. Nutritious food is the cornerstone of health. The nutritional needs of a patient differ on various aspects like age, disease, severity of the symptoms etc. As Often nurses plays the role of nutritional counsellor, the VISWASS Nutrition lab teaches and demonstrate the students in depth knowledge on planning and preparation of various recipes according to the patient needs.

Objectives

• To prepare students to assess nutritional status of individual at different life-cycle stages and determine nutrition-related conditions and diseases by applying knowledge.
• To provide students the ability to critique and effectively communicate nutrition information to the individuals and families.
• To describe social, multiethnic, and environmental dimensions within nutrition and the life sciences.

A.V. Aids Lab

VISWASS A.V.Aids Laboratory consist extensive audiovisual equipment likeLCD Projector, Interactive Star Board, Slide projector, Film Projector, Video and 35 mm slide images to television, over-head Projector & Epidiascope.

Objectives

• To teach the students the importance of audiovisual aids in teaching and learning process.
• To assist the students in preparation of audiovisual aids and storing it.
• To provide various audio visual equipments for effective teaching in nursing.

Nursing Foundation Lab

Well equipped labs provides excellent opportunities for the students to learn and practice basic skills and more advanced nursing interventions in simulated hospital settings using anatomical models, high-fidelity simulators and mannequins.

Nursing foundation lab creates an imaginary hospital set up; where the students can study can study learn and practice the basic nursing procedures on mannequins with the assistance of clinical instructors. By this the students will be confident enough to care the patient in their clinical settings.

Objectives

• To demonstrate fundamental nursing psychomotor skills in a safe manner.
• To use written verbal, non-verbal and emerging technology methods to communicate effectively.
• To utilize organizational and time management skills in the patient care setting priorities for clinical performance.
• To demonstrate beginning critical thinking decision making skills based on standards of practice, theory, and research.
• Apply theoretical content to the nursing care of the client in a clinical setting.
• To Improve the quality of pre service training and provides Continuing Nursing Education to the faculties
• To develop the ability and skills of the students in managing various situations of antenatal, intranatal and postnatal mothers and normal and high risk neonates

Community Health Nursing Lab

Community Health Nursing Lab provides an experience similar to working on a team of Community Health Nurses responding to a Primary Health Care need of a specific community. The student will learn skills in responding to community needs by implementing various concepts like Primary Health Care, the Population Health Promotion, the Community as Partner model etc. The lab is equipped with several models like local community model, sewage model, bore well model and more than 100 community health care bags.

Objectives

• To provide knowledge and skill by using various models available in the lab.
• To prepare students on comprehensive care to individual and community.
• To prepare the students to develop IPR with the community population to involve actively in the community programs.
• To prepare the students to assist/conduct school health programme.
• To organize health camps in the community areas.

Preclinical lab

VISWASS preclinical Science Lab provides the students in depth knowledge about the human anatomy and Physiology. The lab is equipped with modern equipments like compound microscope, micro balance, and various histological slides, variety of human organ and system models and Charts which help the students to understand the human body.

Objectives

• To demonstrate the students the normal anatomy and physiology of the human body.
• To provide in depth knowledge to the students regarding applied anatomy.
• To demonstrate various biochemical reactions of the human systems.

are very high for developing Basic Nursing Skills among the students. The students are getting specialized training to enhance the Advanced Nursing Skills and efficiency in parent 400bedded hospital at Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar. The clinical rotation plan ensures that every student gets adequate experience in each specialty area. Clinical expert teachers are allotted at 1:10 teacher student ratio who continuously assist and ensure the development of clinical skills of the student.

The students were given adequate laboratory hours to enhance the confidence levels before entering any clinical setting.

Computer Lab

Computer lab provide the tools and technologies to produce teaching, communicate via email,
conduct data analyses. Microsoft Windows software is available for word processing, statistics,
spreadsheets and database management. This lab is a multi-purpose technology and collaborative
workspace. The lab is dedicated to teaching, learning and research needs of the students. The
Institute also has a back-up 2Mbps broadband internet connection, state-of-the-art computers
with the latest configurations and software for imparting instruction to its students.

Strategies for deploying and upgrading the IT infrastructure and related facilities?

Digital classrooms to have been introduced for enriching the teaching and learning process.

More number of hardware and software are added to cater to the needs of the students and staff.

Every department has Internet facility to speed up the activities like browsing and research.

Interactive boards, Digital visualizer, Electronic podium, Digital slate etc. have been added to upgrade the IT infrastructure facilities.

The computers in the lab are well configured suitable for the use of design software by the users for Architecture. These computers are upgraded as per the need of university syllabus and the software version change.

The computer and related electronic equipment are tested and maintained with a scheduled
frequency to keep the facility up and running.

IT DEPARTMENT– COMPUTER HARDWARE & NETWORKING SUPPORT

For all the desktop computers provided to Employees and students. Finding the best possible
suitable configuration for the design needs and provide them the best. Troubleshooting of all the
pc and software.

NETWORKING

All the PCs are connected in LAN. The networking layout designing and implementation is
done. The computers are spread over four storied and in two wings of the building.

WI-FI

The campus is enabled for wireless connectivity. All the laptop users and Smart devices are
getting connected to the resources with DHCP enabled access points. Free yet Secure and
controlled internet connection is provided to all.

DOMAIN SERVER

For authentication of users on the client PC, windows 2012 server is configured. The policies are
implemented for various groups and users.

ANTI-VIRUS SERVER

The anti-virus server console is configured for catering the centralized updating support for
clients.

ATTENDANCE SYSTEM

Bio-Metric attendance system.

AUDIO SYSTEMS

All the classes are equipped with amplifier, speaker set and lapel mike. The conference hall,
seminar hall and the courtyard is equipped with high quality audio systems.

PROJECTION SYSTEMS

The LCD Projectors are placed at various locations and used for students and staff, for
presentations, seminars, workshops.
